Did you know that children who grow up overweight or obese have a higher likelihood of continuing to be obese into their adult years?

In a study conducted by NHS, researchers found that 9.5% of children between the ages of 4 and 5 were classified as obese and 2.4% were classified as severely obese. Additionally, for children ages 6-11, 20.1% in this age group were obese and 4.2% were severely obese. Based off of these statistics, it becomes clear that once a child becomes obese, they’re more likely to continue down this road.

Additionally, most of these children who were classified as obese and severely obese were found to be living in some of the more deprived regions within the UK. This can be attributed to the fact that these areas simply can’t afford to organize sports programs because they have to allocate their funds in other areas.

Thankfully, there’s a way to reverse this curse.

The integration of sports and physical activities is crucial to a child’s upbringing. Through activities such as running, walking, riding a bike, or maybe even one of SportInspired’s festivals, anyone, no matter what your background may be, has the opportunity to combat obesity and lead a more active life.
