The SportInspired Young Leader programme gives high-school children the opportunity to inspire the younger generation through leading our sports festivals and clubs, whilst earning a sports leadership qualification in the process.

Abdou Jeng attended our Young Leader programme as a teenager in 2015. Little did he know that the skills he learnt and memories he made would go on to shape his future. Six years later, we met Abdou at the same leisure centre where he'd attended as a teenage Young Leader. This time, 'Mr Jeng' was bringing his P.E class to a SportInspired festival to give them the same fun, enriching experiences he had growing up.

"SportInspired's programme led me to want to teach children in sports and P.E," said Mr Jeng. "It keeps them engaged in something, and gives them something in life to enjoy. They might not know how talented they are, but going to these events shows them that they can do well."

Through the Young Leader programme, Abdou had been inspired to become a P.E teacher and continue bringing sport and play to children in his community. His story is a shining example of why our Young Leader programmes exist: to provide fun, inspirational experiences while simultaneously boosting self confidence and practical employability skills.
